Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, welcomed today, Sunday, 16 November 2025, nuclear fusion energy expert Prof. Dr. Ghassan Antar from the American University of Beirut, ahead of a specialized scientific workshop to be held at the college.
The visit was extended at the invitation of the College of Engineering to conduct a workshop on nuclear fusion energy, including an introduction to the preliminary designs for the Ring Fusion Plasma Device project, which will be presented by the college’s team of expert faculty members.
The workshop is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, 17 November 2025, in the Mahdi Hantoush Hall, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
During his visit, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Antar toured the Mechanical Engineering Department, accompanied by the department head, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kareem Hassan, and several faculty members. He inspected the laboratories and classrooms, praising the scientific capabilities and laboratory infrastructure available at the college, as well as the educational and research support provided to students. He also expressed his gratitude to the Dean for the warm reception and hospitality.
It is worth noting that the University of Baghdad is currently working on establishing a research center for fusion plasma in collaboration with the American University of Beirut, aiming to advance joint research projects in the field of advanced energy.
